We are on the lookout for a senior Mechanical Design Engineer who works within the Building Services sector to join one of the nation's leading contractors in their specialist refrigeration design team in Birmingham. Competitive salary, benefits and an excellent work environment included.


The successful candidate must have some familiarity within the retail refrigeration industry. The company are looking for somebody to ensure the company's engineering designs are produced in accordance with customer and departmental requirements and enable the installation of products to internal and customer standards. The right candidate will work closely with the Sales Department, Project and Account Managers on new and existing projects and be in attendance of design meetings when required. On top of that, you will be working with the drawing department on the production of installation drawings, obtaining quotations for required labour, materials and plant as well as compiling project costs with a keen focus on value for money.

As a senior mechanical design engineer, you will be expected to develop and maintain key departmental & interdepartmental relationships whilst promoting a culture of continual improvement and possibly assist with work in other departments as and when required.

The person we are looking for will be diligent. That means displaying appropriate standards of behaviour, upholding ethics, values & the promotion of equal opportunities. As part of the role, you will undertake training as required to obtain new skills and techniques to support continuous improvement & development of the department and job role and ultimately, take ownership of your own work and position.

The specific requirements of this position are as follows:

  • Recognised qualifications in refrigeration design/engineering.
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in a similar role.
  • A proven track record of design delivery within a design team.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills and an ability to work under pressure.
  • A good working knowledge of Microsoft office software.
  • Familiarity with MicroPipe/Calc and an understanding of base principles.
  • Experience with HFC/CO2 refrigerants.
