Senior Geotechnical Engineer - York (North Yorkshire)

My client is a multi-disciplinary solutions business based in York (North Yorkshire) that provides a full range of services from consultancy, design and engineering to on-site project management. Working in partnership with their clients delivering high quality, innovative and responsive solutions to meet individual requirements whilst building on collaborative relationships that create success.

This company has a portfolio of award-winning work, projects include the redevelopment of King's Cross Station, Reading Station Area Redevelopment, Thameslink Programme and Energy from Waste (EfW) facilities in Cardiff, Leeds, Staffordshire, Suffolk and Oxfordshire. In light of this and with the business growing substantially they are now looking to recruit a Senior Geotechnical Engineer.

Responsibilities include the following:

  • Act as Deputy for Section Leader if required
  • Achieve the agreed targets regarding effective delivery of geotechnical projects to current standards, within agreed timescales and budgets and staff utilisation
  • Monitor project performance against contracts/project quality plans and take necessary corrective action if required
  • Secure business by developing and maintaining contacts with clients with support from Team Leader
  • Assist in the development of staff to ensure the geotechnical skills are available within the Geo-environmental department to meet business objectives
  • Apply procedures and systems to ensure the safety of staff, and others, affected by the operations of Tata
  • Lead projects on behalf of clients as directed
  • Manage deliverables within the group in quality and direction (jointly with Senior Geo-environmental Engineer).
  • Direction of geotechnical design section for project and detailed design requirements
  • Take a Lead Engineer and CRE role on Projects
  • Take a lead role in development of Client contact and work streams with Network Rail and Contractors (with support from Team Leader)
  • Develop the team of geotechnical engineers through training initiatives and CPD
  • Any other reasonable duties as required

About You:

  • Ideally a charted or near chartered civil engineer or geologist
  • Previous geotechnical engineering design and site experience at engineer level
  • Consultancy and contracting experience
  • Good knowledge and experience of the geotechnical aspects of civil engineering design and construction principles and standards
  • Good knowledge of geology and the importance of ground modelling
  • Good knowledge of ground investigation techniques and links to data acquisition and design
  • Understanding of Eurocode and other standards
  • Railway and other sector experience
