We're working with a leading engineering consultancy delivering high-value pharmaceutical and industrial projects across the UK and Europe. Due to continued growth and demand, they're seeking a Principal E&I Engineer to join their Manchester-based team on a contract basis.
The Role:
As Principal E&I Engineer, you'll lead the design and delivery of Electrical & Instrumentation packages across complex capital projects. Your focus will include front-end design, detailed engineering, and supporting project execution.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the E&I design and engineering scope across multiple projects
Prepare specifications, layouts, and manage instrumentation and control systems
Coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams, clients, and subcontractors both in the UK and across Europe
Ensure compliance with relevant industry regulations and safety standards
Contribute to the full project lifecycle, from concept to commissioning
Mentor junior engineers and uphold quality and best practice standards
Requirements:
Proven experience as a Principal or Lead E&I Engineer within engineering consultancy
Strong understanding of electrical and instrumentation design principles, including ATEX, hazardous area classification, cable sizing, containment, loop diagrams, and control philosophies
Experience in producing and reviewing key design documentation such as load schedules, SLDs, P&IDs, I/O lists, and functional design specifications
Working knowledge of UK and EU electrical regulations and standards, including BS7671 and IEC codes
Familiarity with pharmaceutical, process, or heavy industrial sectors, particularly in regulated environments with clean utilities and automation
Proficient in working with design tools and platforms such as AutoCAD, Amtech, or similar
Strong project coordination skills, including interfacing with vendors, subcontractors, and client teams
Able to work independently and take technical ownership of project delivery
Comfortable with hybrid working arrangements and regular on-site presence at the Salford Quays office
Available for contract engagement inside IR35
