A well-established building services consultancy, delivering innovative, sustainable, and high-quality MEP design solutions across commercial, industrial, residential, and public sector projects. Known for technical excellence, long-term client partnerships, and a collaborative culture, the business actively supports career progression - with three recent promotions up to Associate Director level and multiple new hires joining in the past year.
The Milton Keynes office currently has four team members and is expanding to around 8 to support a growing workload. Projects include industrial warehouses for USA developers, multiple schemes with West Northamptonshire Council, and mixed use Industrial/Commercial developments - all offering a mix of design and site-based challenges.
About the Role
As an Intermediate Mechanical Engineer, you'll work closely with a Senior Mechanical Engineer, two junior team members, and an experienced leadership group. Your time will be split between:
20-30%: Attending site visits, inspections, and client meetings - developing your confidence in representing the company.
70-80%: Mechanical design work, producing innovative, efficient, and compliant solutions.
The team typically works from home on Thursdays, spends a couple of days each week on-site, and is in the office for the remainder - making it ideal for someone who thrives on variety and collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
Support the delivery of mechanical building services design projects under the guidance of senior engineers.
Attend site visits and meetings to broaden your project exposure and client interaction skills.
Contribute to the preparation of detailed designs, drawings, and specifications.
Assist in ensuring designs comply with relevant regulations and standards.
Collaborate with other engineering disciplines for coordinated project delivery.
About You
2-5 years UK experience in building services, ideally within a consultancy or contractor design department.
A degree or HND in Building Services Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or similar.
Proficiency with industry-standard design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, IES).
Good communication skills and a professional, presentable manner.
A willingness to attend meetings and site visits, developing confidence in client-facing situations.
Enthusiasm to learn and take ownership of tasks with support from senior colleagues.
