We are seeking a bright, enthusiastic, and driven Senior Structural Engineer with experience in handling insurance-related claims and a clear desire to progress within the field. In this role, you will take ownership of your own projects within an associate-led framework, while also mentoring intermediate and Graduate Engineers. You will manage project budgets, liaise with clients and consultants, and occasionally travel across the North and Midlands. The position requires flexibility, strong analytical skills, and attention to detail, together with a collaborative, approachable attitude that reflects our values.
You will be responsible for delivering and coordinating projects with technical precision, preparing sketches, calculations, specifications, and reports, and ensuring all outputs meet high quality standards. The work will include feasibility studies, structural surveys, and clear reporting of recommendations. You will oversee project delivery and financial performance on small to mid-scale assignments, working closely with clients, local authorities, and design teams. Supporting and developing junior engineers will form part of your role, alongside contributing to bids and proposals, improving team procedures, and engaging in your own professional growth. You will plan site investigations, liaise with subcontractors, prepare progress reports, and contribute to design and site meetings. A focus on risk management, information standards, and compliance with project procedures will be central to your work.
Applicants should demonstrate a sound understanding of engineering principles and construction processes and you will bring proven design experience across concrete, steel, timber, and masonry structures, working to British Standards and Eurocodes, with knowledge of both new-build and refurbishment projects. Strong skills in structural design software, detailing and buildability, and an awareness of CDM regulations are required. Excellent written and verbal communication, the ability to prepare technical reports and sketches, and confidence in client-facing situations are essential.
Chartered status, a degree in civil or structural engineering, or membership of a professional body such as ICE or IStructE would be advantageous, as would familiarity with tools such as SCIA or Tekla Building Designer.
You will be joining an established, independent consultancy with a long history of delivering structural and civil engineering services across the UK. With offices located throughout the South East, South West, the Midlands, and the North, the business provides a multidisciplinary service spanning education, healthcare, retail, residential, heritage, and mixed-use developments. The firm is employee-owned, people-focused, and known for its supportive culture, strong client relationships, and commitment to sustainability, digital design methods, and community engagement.
The package includes a competitive salary, 25 days annual leave with additional accrual for long service, performance-related and employee ownership bonuses, flexible and hybrid working options, and the ability to buy or sell holiday. Benefits also include family-friendly policies, an employee referral scheme, structured professional development, pension contributions, private healthcare, and a cycle-to-work scheme.
