Associate Director - Water & Flood Risk
I'm working with a leading Environmental Consultancy who are looking to bring an Associate Director into their Water Engineering team, based in Leeds. This is an excellent opportunity for someone ready to step up and take on a leadership role in the delivery of major water and flood risk projects across the UK.
The successful candidate will be involved in a wide variety of work, from flood alleviation schemes for local authorities to surface water separation programmes with utilities, as well as advising housing developers and infrastructure providers on their flood risk and drainage challenges. The role combines technical expertise with leadership, client engagement and business development. You'll be responsible for guiding projects from strategy through to delivery, building and maintaining strong client relationships, and mentoring junior colleagues as the team continues to grow.
The consultancy is particularly active across the North of England, with a strong track record of supporting local authorities, utility providers and developers on a broad spectrum of water-related projects. Their portfolio includes flood alleviation schemes designed to protect communities, innovative surface water management solutions, and sustainable drainage strategies that support regional housing growth. They are also contributing to high-profile programmes focused on improving river health and resilience, helping to deliver long-term environmental and social benefits across the region.
The consultancy is looking for someone who is Chartered with ICE or CIWEM, educated to degree level (or equivalent), and with proven experience leading flood risk or surface water projects. You should be comfortable working across multidisciplinary teams, confident in client-facing situations, and have a solid track record of delivering high-quality projects. Experience with ArcGIS, AutoCAD, Civils 3D and Microsoft Office would be beneficial, as would experience in bidding for new work. A full UK driving licence is required, and security clearance would be advantageous.
In return, you'll be joining a company with a strong learning and development culture, where professional growth is actively supported through CPD, mentoring and structured training. The role offers hybrid working, a wide variety of challenging projects ranging from local schemes to large national infrastructure programmes, and the chance to make a real impact in the water and flood risk sector.
If this sounds like the right next step for you, please get in touch by clicking apply or contacting me directly and I'll be happy to share more details.
