Principal Engineer (CRE-A / STE02) - Rail Structures
Location: York - mostly remote working position
Salary: Day Rate - OUTSIDE IR35
Are you an experienced Principal Engineer with CRE-A and STE02 competency? We're working with a leading consultancy on the CAFA project and seeking a structural specialist to deliver key examination and assessment work in line with Network Rail standards.
The Role
As Principal Engineer, you will take responsibility for both structural examinations and structural assessments, acting as CRE-A and STE02 on major rail structures.
Key responsibilities include:
- Producing detailed examination reports compliant with NR/L2/CIV/086, including condition observations, defects, urgent safety notifications, and remedial recommendations.
- Preparing structural assessment reports, including full calculations, design checks, technical commentary, and compliance certification.
- Providing clear recommendations to Network Rail Asset Engineers, including restrictions, strengthening, and monitoring requirements.
- Maintaining accurate hazard logs and responding to technical queries from Network Rail.
- Delivering regular progress updates and ensuring full auditability of calculations and findings.
About You
We're looking for a chartered engineer with proven experience in rail structures:
- Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering (or equivalent) and Chartered status (CEng / MICE / MIStructE or similar).
- Significant experience in bridge and structural examinations/assessments.
- Strong knowledge of Network Rail standards (esp. NR/L2/CIV/025, NR/L2/CIV/035).
- Previous project experience under Network Rail's assessment frameworks.
- CRE-A acceptance for assessment discipline & valid CRE certificate.
- STE02 competency sign-off (endorsed or certified via Network Rail training).
