Salary: £50,000-£55,000 per annum

Company Overview

Established over 20 years ago, this well-regarded multi-disciplinary building services consultancy provides comprehensive Mechanical, Electrical, Public Health, and Sustainability design services. The practice has extensive experience across both residential and commercial sectors, delivering projects that range from large-scale new-build developments to student accommodation, care homes, mixed-use schemes, office fit-outs, retail spaces, and healthcare facilities.

With in-house Revit capability and BIM Level 2 certification, the company also boasts a dedicated sustainability department specialising in SAP, SBEM, thermal comfort, and energy strategy assessments. Their culture is built around long-term career development and stability, valuing consistent growth and staff retention over short-term hiring for project peak

Role

They're looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join the Senior Management Team. This is more than a designer role - it involves technical leadership, mentorship, project management, and helping shape company direction.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead mechanical design from early stages (concept / stage 2) through to later delivery (stage 4 etc.), including liaising with clients, contractors, internal design teams.

  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, standards, contractual scopes of work etc.

  • Oversee and mentor a team of intermediate engineers and share knowledge; manage their development.

  • Be part of strategy & direction discussions as a senior figure; feed up to Managing Director.

  • Work on larger new-build residential (especially London area), and also commercial / health sector works when required.

  • Participate in design team meetings, client presentations, stakeholder engagement etc.

Required Experience

  • 5-6+ years' experience in Mechanical Building Services Design (or equivalent), with exposure to large residential projects (and ideally commercial / healthcare).

  • Strong technical knowledge (mechanical systems: heating / ventilation / water services / plant room design etc.).

  • Experience managing projects end-to-end, including liaising with clients, contractors & internal teams.

  • Experience mentoring / managing more junior/intermediate engineers.

  • Proficient with Revit / BIM workflows.

  • Good understanding of sustainability / energy / regulation requirements (SAP / SBEM / thermal comfort etc.).

  • Local candidate (commutable), as office presence is required part of the week.

What You'll Get & Culture

  • Hybrid work model (approx. 2 days remote per week), though many choose to spend more time in the office.

  • Clear career development path: opportunity to become Associate level.

  • Small-to-medium sized tight-knit team (20 staff), with open-door management. You'll have direct access to senior leadership including MD.

  • Goals setting (short/medium/long-term) with regular reviews.

  • Social culture: monthly socials, Christmas party, staff often socialise outside work.
