Location: Birmingham (Hybrid / Flexible Working)
Salary: Up to £60,000 + 5% Bonus

Overview

An established and growing building services consultancy is seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer to join their expanding Birmingham office. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced electrical design engineer to take ownership of projects, mentor others, and become the future Electrical Lead within a supportive and flexible environment.

Founded over a decade ago, the business has developed a strong reputation across the South West and South East, delivering high-quality MEP design solutions across a range of sectors. The Birmingham office, established just over a year ago, is now developing its own client base and project portfolio, while maintaining close collaboration with teams in Cardiff and Plymouth.

The Role

You'll take the lead on electrical design for a range of building services projects, overseeing a small but capable team and providing technical leadership across the electrical discipline. The position reports to the Birmingham Office Lead (mechanically biased) and will play a key role in developing and shaping the local team as it grows.

Project Sectors

You'll be working on a diverse portfolio, typically valued between £1-10 million, including:

• Healthcare (hospitals, medical training centres)

• Energy and infrastructure (energy centres, plant rooms)

• Education (colleges, schools)

• Custodial and public sector (condition surveys for prisons and hospitals)

• Residential and mixed-use developments

These projects often fall below the scale that major consultancies pursue, allowing the team to offer a more personal and detailed service.

About You

You'll be an experienced electrical design engineer with solid building services experience, ideally at senior or principal level, and capable of leading projects with minimal supervision. You'll be self-motivated, conscientious, and enjoy working in a flexible, trust-based environment.

Key Skills & Experience:

• Proven experience in electrical design within building services

• Chartered or working towards chartership (desirable, not essential)

• Strong technical background across a range of sectors

• Comfortable managing projects, clients, and junior engineers

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively across offices
