Senior Civil Infrastructure Design Engineer
Newcastle upon Tyne
A forward-thinking Engineering Consultancy is looking to appoint an experienced Senior level Civil Infrastructure Engineer to join its growing Newcastle upon Tyne office. The practice delivers high-quality, practical and sustainable engineering solutions across the UK, supporting projects in the residential, commercial, industrial and public sectors. With a strong focus on collaboration and innovation, the team combines technical expertise with a proactive approach to infrastructure design and delivery.
The successful candidate will play a leading role in the design and coordination of infrastructure schemes across a wide variety of development types. Typical work includes highways and drainage design, flood risk management, public realm improvements, site development and utility coordination. The position offers the opportunity to work on a diverse and challenging project portfolio, contributing to both private sector developments and public infrastructure works.
In this role, you will be responsible for preparing and reviewing designs for roads, drainage, earthworks and associated civil infrastructure in accordance with relevant standards and regulations. You will undertake detailed analysis, produce technical reports and specifications, and use recognised design software such as Civil 3D, MicroDrainage and Flow. A key part of the role involves liaising with clients, architects, contractors and approving authorities to deliver coordinated and cost-effective design solutions. You will ensure that projects comply with current design guidance including DMRB, Sewers for Adoption, SuDS and Building Regulations, while also supporting more junior engineers and technicians in developing their skills.
Applicants should hold a degree in Civil Engineering and be Chartered or close to achieving Chartered status with a relevant professional institution such as the ICE. A strong background in UK-based infrastructure design and approvals is essential, alongside a practical understanding of the construction process. Excellent communication, technical reporting and project management skills are required, as well as the ability to manage workloads and meet deadlines within a multidisciplinary team.
The Consultancy promotes a collaborative and open working environment where engineers are encouraged to apply creativity and technical rigour to their work. The team is committed to sustainable design principles and strives to deliver infrastructure that balances efficiency, cost and environmental impact. Professional development is actively supported, and engineers are given opportunities to lead, innovate and make meaningful contributions to shaping the built environment.
This role provides a genuine opportunity for an experienced Civil Engineer seeking more responsibility and long-term career growth in a supportive, progressive consultancy environment.
