Are you an experienced Mechanical Estimator looking to join a well-established contractor with a strong reputation across the commercial and retail fit-out sector?
This growing building services contractor is looking for a technically astute and commercially minded Estimator to play a key role in securing and delivering high-value tenders and framework projects.
You'll be instrumental in developing competitive bids using your knowledge of market rates, technical insight, and cost analysis skills-helping the business stay ahead of the competition and win new work across a diverse project portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed project cost estimates, considering scope, objectives, and profitability.
- Source and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotations for specialist packages.
- Identify project risks and determine suitable contingency allowances.
- Produce accurate cost plans from material take-offs, drawings, and specifications.
- Benchmark estimates against historical data and established KPIs.
- Review subcontractor pricing to ensure accuracy and compliance with scope.
- Support senior management with bid analysis, tender reviews, and contract negotiations.
- Coordinate tender launch, review, and adjudication meetings.
- Manage the collation of tender documentation to meet submission deadlines.
- Oversee handover to project teams, providing detailed cost plans for successful bids.
About You
You'll be a proactive, detail-driven Estimator with a strong background in M&E or building services. You'll have the technical knowledge to produce robust estimates and the commercial awareness to ensure competitiveness and profitability.
You'll also be comfortable liaising with suppliers, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders, ensuring all tenders are fully compliant and well-prepared.
Experience & Knowledge:
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in a similar Estimating role within the construction or M&E industry.
- Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical systems, materials, and specifications.
- Proven ability to interpret technical documents including BoQs, drawings, and specifications.
- Experience in commercial or retail fit-out projects is advantageous.
Skills & Attributes:
- Excellent numerical and IT skills, particularly Excel and Word.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills.
- Ability to prioritise, manage deadlines, and work under pressure.
- Team-oriented with a proactive, problem-solving approach.
- Sound commercial judgement and awareness of current market rates.
- Ability to identify project risks and propose mitigations.
Qualifications:
- GCSEs (or equivalent) including Maths and English.
- BTEC, HNC/HND, or degree in Construction, Building Services, or a related discipline preferred.
