Geotechnical Engineer

Location: York

I'm working with a growing, employee-owned civil and structural engineering consultancy, looking to add a Geotechnical Engineer for their York office.

This is an ideal role for an engineer with a few years experience, wanting to take more ownership of design work and projects, develop strong client-facing skills, and progress towards Incorporated or Chartered status with structured support.

You will join a friendly, highly collaborative team delivering a mix of rail, transportation, energy, heavy civils and structures projects, with significant repeat business and a great culture.

Geotechnical Engineer Role Overview

Working as a Geotechnical Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, analysis and management of engineering projects from early feasibility through to detailed design and construction support.

You will work closely with clients, contractors and multi-disciplinary teams to deliver technically robust and compliant solutions, with growing involvement in project management, client liaison and commercial aspects (time and budget management).

Geotechnical Engineer Responsibilities

  • Undertake preliminary and detailed design on a range of civil and geotechnical projects.
  • Prepare technical drawings, calculations, specifications and reports.
  • Carry out engineering analysis and ensure designs comply with relevant standards and codes.
  • Contribute to and assist in the preparation of fee proposals and tenders.
  • Liaise and coordinate with clients, contractors and other stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Undertake site visits and inspections, including occasional overnight or weekend work where required.
  • Ensure all work complies with design, safety and quality management systems.
  • Work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary internal teams and external partners.
  • Support and provide technical guidance to graduate and junior engineers as your experience develops.
