An award-winning, employee-owned Environmental and Engineering Consultancy is seeking talented hydraulic modellers to join its teams in Leeds. Opportunities are available across all grades, from early-career professionals through to Principal level, with responsibilities and expectations aligned to experience.
The Consultancy undertakes a diverse and technically challenging portfolio of hydraulic modelling and flood risk work, including scheme appraisal and design, integrated flood risk assessment, optioneering studies, nature-based solutions and climate adaptation strategies for both high and low flow scenarios, reservoir safety assessments, flood forecasting, and catchment-scale flood mapping. Its work supports communities, infrastructure and the natural environment, placing innovation, sustainability and long-term resilience at the centre of every project.
Successful candidates will work as part of multidisciplinary teams delivering flood risk modelling and mapping projects for public and private sector clients. The role involves producing high-quality technical outputs, solving complex problems, and clearly communicating modelling results and recommendations. Team members are encouraged to champion innovation, applying advanced tools and evolving methodologies, while collaborating closely with colleagues across planning, appraisal, engineering, environmental and design disciplines. Depending on seniority, the role may also involve project and task management, client liaison, business development activities and mentoring or supporting junior staff.
The Consultancy is looking for individuals with experience in hydraulic modelling who thrive in collaborative environments and communicate effectively with colleagues, clients and stakeholders. Flexibility and a team-focused approach are essential, as projects are delivered both locally and in collaboration with colleagues across multiple offices and regions. Candidates should hold a degree, or equivalent qualification, in environmental science, geography, mathematics or a related discipline. Professional chartership is highly valued, and applicants should either be Chartered or able to demonstrate a clear commitment to achieving Chartered status with an appropriate professional body.
Applicants should have demonstrable experience in flood risk hydraulic modelling using one or more industry-standard packages such as Flood Modeller, HEC-RAS, InfoWorks ICM, MIKE+ or TUFLOW, with confidence in applying 1D, 2D and linked 1D/2D techniques in both rural and urban settings. Proficiency in GIS software, including ArcGIS or QGIS, and experience working with terrain and spatial data are essential. For more senior roles, experience in project management, work winning and client engagement is expected. Strong communication skills, self-motivation and a collaborative mindset are important at all levels.
Additional experience in hydrological methods, such as FEH, an understanding of UK flood risk policy and management approaches, involvement in multidisciplinary project teams, business case appraisal, technical reporting, coding in Python or R, or knowledge of advanced modelling approaches such as computational fluid dynamics would be advantageous.
The Consultancy supports flexible and hybrid working and offers roles across multiple office locations. It is independent and staff-owned under a stewardship model that promotes long-term decision-making, investment in people and continuous improvement. Employees benefit from a competitive salary, flexible working arrangements and a comprehensive benefits package, alongside a strong commitment to professional development, including generous training budgets and structured support towards professional qualifications.
This is an opportunity to build a rewarding career within a forward-thinking Consultancy that is committed to helping clients and communities adapt to climate change and build resilience for the future.
