The Opportunity

We are looking for a motivated Graduate Mechanical Design Engineer to join a Building Services Design team in Manchester, working on technically challenging projects across healthcare, industrial, and data centre sectors.

This is an excellent opportunity to develop your engineering career within a supportive design environment, gaining hands-on experience across all stages of project delivery while working alongside experienced engineers and multidisciplinary teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assisting in the design of mechanical building services systems including HVAC, public health, and specialist ventilation systems
  • Supporting the production of calculations (heat loss/gain, pipe sizing, duct sizing, ventilation rates, etc.)
  • Preparing technical drawings and coordinated layouts using AutoCAD and/or Revit
  • Supporting the development of specifications, schedules, and technical reports
  • Attending design meetings and liaising with architects, structural engineers, and contractors
  • Assisting with site visits, surveys, and inspections
  • Ensuring designs comply with current regulations and standards including UK Building Regulations and healthcare guidance
  • Contributing to sustainable and energy-efficient design solutions

Requirements

  • Degree (BEng or MEng) in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering
  • Strong academic background with a genuine interest in building services design
  • Basic understanding of HVAC systems and building physics principles
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD and/or Revit (advantageous but not essential)
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities
  • Desire to work towards Chartered Engineer status (CEng)
