Are you ready to lead meaningful projects that genuinely shape places and communities?
I'm working with a well-established, multidisciplinary consultancy that is looking to appoint an Associate Director into its growing Local Authority / Sustainable Transport team in Birmingham. This is a senior opportunity for someone who wants influence, autonomy and the chance to play a visible role in regional growth.
You'll be joining a nationally recognised team delivering place-making, active travel and sustainable transport solutions for public and private sector clients across the UK.
As Associate Director, you'll take a leadership position within the regional team, balancing client-facing delivery, team leadership and business growth. You'll work closely with senior stakeholders while overseeing a varied and rewarding project portfolio.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting the Regional Lead and helping shape the growth of the Birmingham and wider regional team
- Acting as Project Lead / Technical lead on a diverse range of transport and public realm projects
- Leading and mentoring project teams, including multi-disciplinary collaboration across the wider business
- Managing client relationships and engaging with key stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle
- Overseeing project budgets, financial performance and commercial outcomes
- Contributing to work winning and supporting bids within the public sector
- Providing technical oversight, review and quality assurance of deliverables
- Staying up to date with industry best practice, policy and innovation
The Team & Projects
You'll join a national team delivering projects from concept through to delivery, including:
- Public realm and place-making
- Active travel and sustainable transport
- Traffic engineering and road safety
- Parking strategies and traffic signals
- Pedestrian and traffic modelling
The team works with a wide range of local authorities and strategic bodies across the UK, has a strong pipeline of secured work and ambitious growth plans. Collaboration, enthusiasm and professional development are central to the team culture.
About You
This role would suit an experienced transport professional ready to step into (or already operating at) Associate Director level.
Requirement:
- A degree in Civil Engineering (or similar/transferrable)
- Chartered status with a relevant professional body e.g. ICE or CIHT
- Strong knowledge of UK transport policy, guidance and standards
- Proven experience leading projects and managing financial performance
- A track record of supporting or leading public sector work winning
- Experience across areas such as sustainable transport, traffic engineering, road safety, parking or signals
- Excellent communication skills and confidence working with senior clients and stakeholders
- A genuine passion for mentoring, developing people and building high-performing teams
