Senior Engineer - Water Services

A leading multidisciplinary Consultancy is seeking to appoint a Senior level Engineer to join its expanding UK water team. This is a key technical leadership role within a well-established infrastructure business delivering innovative and sustainable solutions across water, wastewater and environmental engineering projects.

Established in 1970's, this privately owned Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering Consultancy has grown to employ a multidisciplinary team of more than 250 professionals across four offices in the UK and Ireland. The organisation specialises in the planning, design and management of major infrastructure projects, operating through a hands-on, director-led model that promotes close collaboration, technical excellence and the delivery of innovative, cost-effective solutions. Strong, long-standing relationships with clients, partners and stakeholders have resulted in a significant level of repeat business and a consistent pipeline of high-profile work.

The Consultancy is recognised for its supportive and inclusive culture, placing genuine emphasis on employee wellbeing and investing significantly in professional development at every stage of career progression. Its UK office, established in 2019, is now firmly established with a rapidly expanding team and a strong portfolio of secured and upcoming projects. Recent and current schemes include major bridge infrastructure works in Scotland and eastern England, strategic highway improvements in Northern Ireland, landmark cross-border bridge developments in Ireland, and significant urban public infrastructure regeneration projects, demonstrating the breadth and complexity of its project portfolio.

The successful candidate will play a central role in the planning, design and delivery of a broad range of water sector projects, including wastewater networks, surface water management systems, flood risk mitigation measures and sustainable drainage strategies. Working within a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment, they will contribute to projects spanning feasibility, outline and detailed design, statutory approvals and construction support, ensuring technical excellence and compliance with regulatory standards.

Responsibilities will include leading the preparation of technical reports, drainage strategies and hydraulic assessments; undertaking catchment analysis and network modelling; supporting flood risk assessments; and advising design teams on water services and environmental constraints. The role also involves liaising with statutory authorities and key stakeholders, contributing to tender submissions and contract documentation, and providing technical guidance throughout project lifecycles. Mentoring and developing junior engineers will form an important part of the position, supporting the continued growth and capability of the wider water team.

You should hold an honours degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline and have a minimum of eight years' relevant post-graduate experience in water services or infrastructure design. Chartered status, or progression towards it, is expected. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong technical expertise in surface water and foul drainage design, hydraulic modelling and sustainable urban drainage systems, together with a sound understanding of current UK regulatory and environmental frameworks. Excellent communication skills, commercial awareness and the ability to manage competing priorities are essential.

Upon joining the organisation, you will become part of a highly motivated and technically accomplished team known for delivering engineering excellence. You will gain exposure to a diverse and interesting portfolio of infrastructure projects across multiple sectors, providing opportunities to broaden experience and deepen specialist knowledge.
