Hydraulic Modeller

A leading multidisciplinary Consultancy is seeking to appoint a Hydraulic Modeller to join its expanding UK water team. This opportunity offers involvement in a wide range of flood risk, drainage and water management projects within a well-established infrastructure business recognised for technical excellence and sustainable design.

Established in 1970's, this privately owned Consultancy has grown to employ a multidisciplinary team of more than 250 professionals across four offices in the UK and Ireland. The organisation specialises in the planning, design and management of major infrastructure projects, operating through a hands-on, director-led model that promotes close collaboration, technical excellence and the delivery of innovative, cost-effective solutions. Strong, long-standing relationships with clients, partners and stakeholders have resulted in a significant level of repeat business and a consistent pipeline of high-profile work.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the development, application and management of hydraulic models to support projects from feasibility through to detailed design and construction. Key duties will include:

  • Developing, building and calibrating river, surface water and urban drainage hydraulic models
  • Undertaking hydraulic analysis to inform flood risk assessments and drainage strategies
  • Supporting the design of sustainable drainage systems and flood mitigation schemes
  • Interpreting model outputs and providing clear technical advice to multidisciplinary design teams
  • Preparing concise technical reports and documentation for clients and regulatory authorities
  • Maintaining and updating existing hydraulic models to ensure accuracy and compliance

You will hold an honours degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering or a related discipline, with relevant experience in hydraulic modelling. Proficiency in industry-standard software such as InfoWorks ICM, TUFLOW, Flood Modeller or HEC-RAS is essential, alongside a strong understanding of UK flood risk guidance and regulatory frameworks. Strong analytical ability, attention to detail and effective communication skills are key requirements.

The team culture is collaborative and welcoming, with regular social and charitable activities that encourage engagement beyond project work. Staff are offered a competitive remuneration package including generous annual leave, contributory pension, tailored training support and on-site parking. The office environment is modern and spacious, situated in a characterful riverside setting with excellent transport links and convenient access to regional transport connections.
