Mechanical Design Engineer
Carlisle
Salary: £26,000 to £35,000 (DOE)
Job Ref: #39472
We are currently looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join a well-established Chartered Building Services Consultancy based in Carlisle.
The business is open to applications from Junior through to Intermediate level engineers - whether you're currently working on the tools as a Mechanical Engineer/Plumber/Pipefitter looking to transition into a design role, or you already have experience within a consultancy environment and are looking to develop further.
You'll be involved in the design and delivery of a wide range of mechanical building services systems, including heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), domestic water services, and above-ground drainage. The role offers exposure to both new build and refurbishment projects across the North West, particularly around Carlisle, Lancaster, and Preston.
Projects span a variety of sectors including Education, Residential, Healthcare, Industrial, Defence, and Commercial - giving you the opportunity to work on schemes such as hospitals, university buildings, student accommodation, public sector developments, and large-scale commercial projects.
You'll be working closely with Senior Engineers and an experienced Associate, gaining hands-on support and mentorship, with a clear pathway for progression within the business. The consultancy places a strong emphasis on professional development and will support you toward chartership if that's something you're aiming for.
The ideal candidate will hold ONC/HNC qualifications as a minimum, or a Degree in Building Services Engineering or Mechanical Engineering. Just as important is a genuine interest in mechanical design, sustainable building services, and low-carbon technologies such as heat pumps and energy-efficient HVAC systems.
You'll gain experience using industry-standard software including AutoCAD and Revit (MEP), as well as design tools such as Hevacomp, IES, or similar. Previous exposure to these tools would be beneficial, but training will be provided.
This is a great opportunity to join a supportive consultancy environment where you'll work on technically interesting projects and play a part in delivering efficient, sustainable building solutions.
If this role sounds like something you'd be interested in - or if you're considering similar opportunities in the area - feel free to contact Rob Jones on 0161 660 2360, or email your CV directly.
