Assistant Electrical Engineer - Infrastructure (HV/LV)
Preston
Up to £40,000
Job Ref: #38957a
An established building services and infrastructure consultancy in the North West is looking to appoint an Assistant Electrical Engineer with a strong interest in power systems and HV design.
This is a development-focused role offering direct mentorship from an experienced engineer and a clear pathway into a specialist position for the company within electrical power systems team.
You will support the design and delivery of HV and LV infrastructure within buildings and sites, gaining hands-on experience across systems such as transformers, generators, UPS, dual supply resilience, and power distribution networks. The role will involve assisting with technical calculations (load flow, fault levels, voltage drop), contributing to earthing and bonding designs, and producing drawings, schematics, and technical documentation.
Working within a live project environment, you will support delivery across multiple RIBA stages, attend design meetings and site visits, and collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams including mechanical, structural, and architectural colleagues. You will also gain exposure to BIM/CAD processes, design coordination, and industry standards including BS 7671 and relevant HV frameworks.
There are two backgrounds that the client is particularly interested in:
- At an early stage in their Electrical design career and looking to build deep technical expertise in power systems, infrastructure, and resilient design.
- A background from the tools doing installations in a similar field and keen to get into the design office.
The business offers structured training, ongoing mentoring, and support toward professional accreditation (EngTech/IEng/Chartered), alongside exposure to complex and varied projects across sectors including healthcare, education, commercial, and public sector developments. Just as important is a proactive attitude, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn in a technically focused environment.
This is a rare opportunity to develop a long-term career in a specialist area of electrical engineering within a supportive and technically driven consultancy environment.
