Assistant Design Coordinator - Off-Site / Modular Construction | Huddersfield Area | £34,000-£38,000
The role
Our client, a leading UK manufacturer of off-site engineered buildings, is looking for an Assistant Design Coordinator to join its design team, based near Huddersfield (Kirklees, West Yorkshire). The role is within easy reach of Wakefield, Dewsbury, Halifax, Leeds and Bradford.
It would suit an Architectural Technician, Architectural Technologist, BIM Technician or junior Design Coordinator who wants to move into design coordination and project delivery.
You'll work alongside the Head of Design to coordinate architectural, structural and MEP information, liaising with consultants, subcontractors, manufacturing teams and site teams. Because the company manufactures what it designs, you'll get close exposure to buildability and the practical consequences of design decisions.
Projects span healthcare, defence, nuclear, infrastructure, industrial and site accommodation.
Key responsibilities
- Coordinate architectural, structural and MEP design information
- Review drawings, models and specifications from consultants and subcontractors
- Identify missing or conflicting information and drive issues to resolution
- Raise and manage RFIs and design queries
- Maintain design trackers, programmes and information schedules
- Attend design meetings and own agreed actions through to completion
- Support the handover of design information into manufacture
- Produce or amend drawings and models where needed (this isn't primarily a drafting role)
- Support tender and pre-construction work, with occasional site visits
About you
- Experience working with technical construction information, for example as an Architectural Technician or Technologist, BIM or Design Technician, or Assistant Design Coordinator
- Good understanding of how architectural, structural and MEP information interfaces
- Working knowledge of UK construction methods and Building Regulations
- Organised, detail-focused and confident communicating with consultants and stakeholders
- Proactive approach to resolving design issues
Desirable (not essential)
Revit, BIM coordination, Navisworks, Autodesk Construction Cloud or other CDEs, modular or off-site construction, design-and-build or main contractor experience, and RIBA Stage 3/4 technical design.
The client values technical understanding, attitude and coordination potential over a perfect tick-list.
What's on offer
- Salary of £34,000-£38,000, depending on experience
- Clear progression, with increasing ownership of design packages and projects
- A varied, technically demanding project portfolio
