Senior Structural Engineer

Location: Media City, Salford Quays
Salary: £30,000-£50,000 per annum, depending on experience
Working Pattern: Hybrid - minimum 3 days per week in the office

The Opportunity

We're looking for an ambitious and technically capable Senior Structural Engineer to join a collaborative structural engineering team based in Manchester.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Structural Engineer with 3+ years' experience who enjoys detailed design, structural calculations and working on a diverse range of challenging projects. Whether you're operating at an intermediate level or already working at senior level, you'll have the opportunity to develop your technical expertise, take on increasing responsibility and progress your career within a supportive, multidisciplinary environment.

The team works across a broad portfolio of sectors, including industrial, commercial, data centres, rail, ports and power-related infrastructure. With an established pipeline of work and access to major projects, you'll gain exposure to technically interesting schemes while working alongside experienced engineers across multiple UK offices.

The Role

You'll play an important role in the design and delivery of structural engineering projects, contributing to solutions from initial design stages through to detailed calculations and technical delivery.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Undertaking structural analysis, detailed design and engineering calculations.

  • Developing practical, efficient and cost-effective structural solutions.

  • Working across a varied portfolio of projects, including industrial, commercial, data centres, rail, ports and power.

  • Preparing technical reports, calculations and design documentation.

  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary colleagues across a network of five offices.

  • Coordinating with clients, project teams and other engineering disciplines as required.

  • Supporting the delivery of projects to agreed technical, quality and programme requirements.

  • Contributing to design reviews and identifying opportunities to improve engineering solutions.

  • Continuing to develop technical capability and taking on greater project responsibility as experience grows.

About You

We're keen to hear from Structural Engineers who are technically strong, collaborative and motivated to progress.

You'll ideally have:

  • A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, or a relevant equivalent qualification.

  • At least 3 years' experience in structural engineering design.

  • Experience undertaking detailed structural design and calculations.

  • An understanding of relevant design standards, codes and engineering principles.

  • Experience with structural design software and analytical tools.

  • The ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a wider team.

  • Good communication skills and a practical, problem-solving approach.

  • Chartered Engineer status, or be actively working towards chartership with a relevant professional institution such as IStructE or ICE.

Experience across industrial, commercial, infrastructure, rail, ports, data centre or power projects would be advantageous.

The Team and Working Environment

You'll join a close-knit, multidisciplinary structural engineering team of approximately 27-28 people operating across five offices.

The team works collaboratively, with regular resource planning and knowledge-sharing to ensure engineers are allocated to projects according to their skills and project requirements. Although this position is based in Manchester, you'll benefit from working with colleagues across the wider business and gaining exposure to a broad range of projects.

The business combines the collaborative culture and accessibility of an SME with the backing of a larger group, providing access to significant projects, a sustained pipeline of work and opportunities for long-term career development.

Salary and Benefits

  • Competitive salary of £30,000-£50,000, depending on experience.

  • Hybrid working, with a minimum of three days per week in the Manchester office.

  • Modern office facilities close to MediaCity.

  • 26 days' annual leave.

  • Subsidised café facilities.

  • Free on-site parking.

  • Annual performance appraisals and opportunities for career progression.

  • Support for professional development and progression towards chartership.

  • Exposure to major projects across a variety of sectors.

  • Annual Christmas social event and company conferences.

The role includes a six-month probationary period, followed by ongoing annual performance and development reviews.
