Graduate Civil Engineering Technician
Derby
Got a Civil Engineering qualification, some AutoCAD experience and looking for an opportunity to properly develop your technical skills?
Calibre Search are working with an established and highly regarded Civil and Structural Engineering Consultancy in Derby who are looking to bring a Graduate Civil Engineering Technician into their growing team.
This is a great opportunity for someone at the beginning of their career, ideally with around 12 months' industry experience, who wants to get involved in real engineering projects, develop their design capabilities and learn from experienced Civil Engineers and Technicians.
The Consultancy works across a broad range of sectors including Residential, Commercial, Industrial and Education, delivering everything from smaller developments through to larger, more technically challenging schemes.
You'll be joining an experienced Civil Engineering team where you'll receive plenty of hands-on guidance and support, with the opportunity to gradually take on more responsibility as your technical abilities develop.
What will you be doing?
Initially, you'll be supporting the senior engineers and technicians with the production of drawings and technical design information, working on a variety of civil infrastructure projects.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Producing and amending Civil Engineering drawings using AutoCAD.
- Supporting the design of highways, drainage systems, external works and residential infrastructure.
- Assisting with Section 38 and Section 104 adoption drawings and associated design packages.
- Working alongside senior team members to develop your understanding of drainage design, SuDS and infrastructure engineering.
- Learning and developing your skills in Civil 3D and other industry-standard design software.
- Helping prepare technical drawings and documentation throughout different stages of a project.
- Working closely with engineers and other technicians to ensure designs are delivered accurately and efficiently.
What are we looking for?
We're not expecting someone to come in knowing everything. The main thing is having a good foundation in CAD, an interest in Civil Engineering and the willingness to learn. Ideally, you'll have:
- An HNC, HND or degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
- Some practical experience using AutoCAD, whether through employment, placements or relevant project work.
- Ideally around 12 months' experience within a Civil Engineering or infrastructure design environment, although strong graduates will also be considered.
- An interest in highways, drainage, external works and infrastructure design.
- Good attention to detail and a willingness to develop your technical knowledge.
- A positive attitude and the ability to work closely with more experienced engineers.
- Experience using Civil 3D would be a bonus, but it's absolutely not essential. The team are happy to provide training and help you develop your skills in the software.
Why consider this opportunity?
One of the biggest advantages of this position is the opportunity to learn directly from experienced Civil Engineers who can help you build your knowledge and confidence.
Rather than being expected to manage projects or work independently from day one, you'll have the time and support to develop your technical abilities properly. You'll gain exposure to a wide variety of projects, learn industry-standard software and build a solid understanding of how civil infrastructure schemes are designed and delivered.
The position is based in their Derby office five days a week, allowing you to work closely with the team and benefit from the day-to-day support and guidance available. If you're a Graduate Civil Engineering Technician, Junior Civil Engineering Technician or a recent Civil Engineering graduate with good AutoCAD skills and looking for your next opportunity in Derby, I'd be keen to hear from you.
