Ready to take the lead in Environmental Consultancy?

Are you an experienced environmental professional looking for a senior leadership opportunity where you can influence major projects, develop client relationships and help shape the future of a growing team?

Calibre Search is working with an established multidisciplinary consultancy looking to appoint an Associate Director - Environmental Consultancy to strengthen its environmental offering in Birmingham.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong background in Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), project management and team leadership who is ready to take greater ownership of project delivery and contribute to the strategic development of the business.

You'll be working on a diverse range of projects across infrastructure, transport, utilities and development, collaborating with specialists from multiple disciplines to deliver practical, sustainable environmental solutions.

The Role

As Associate Director, you'll take a leading role in overseeing environmental projects, managing technical teams and developing relationships with both existing and prospective clients.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the delivery of Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA), environmental appraisals and associated technical studies.

  • Managing environmental inputs across complex infrastructure and development projects.

  • Providing strategic environmental advice to clients throughout project planning, design and delivery.

  • Overseeing project programmes, budgets, resources and technical quality.

  • Managing, mentoring and supporting a team of environmental consultants.

  • Reviewing environmental reports and ensuring consistently high standards of technical delivery.

  • Building and maintaining strong client relationships while identifying opportunities for further work.

  • Leading and contributing to tenders, proposals and business development activities.

  • Working closely with engineers, planners and other technical specialists to integrate environmental considerations into project decisions.

  • Supporting the wider growth and development of the environmental consultancy team.

You'll have the opportunity to combine technical leadership with commercial responsibility, helping to shape the direction of the team while remaining involved in challenging and varied projects.

About You

We're keen to speak with established Associate Directors, experienced Principals or senior environmental professionals who are ready to progress into a broader leadership role.

Ideally, you'll have:

  • A degree or postgraduate qualification in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Geography, Planning or a related discipline.

  • Extensive experience working within environmental consultancy or a comparable professional services environment.

  • Strong technical knowledge of Environmental Impact Assessment and the wider environmental planning process.

  • Experience delivering environmental assessments for major infrastructure, transport, utilities or development schemes.

  • A proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage complex projects.

  • Previous experience managing or mentoring environmental professionals.

  • Excellent report-writing, technical reviewing and communication skills.

  • Strong commercial awareness, including project financial management and tender preparation.

  • Confidence engaging with clients, stakeholders and regulatory bodies.

  • Chartered status with a relevant professional institution, or equivalent professional standing.

Most importantly, you'll be someone who enjoys combining technical expertise with leadership, building relationships and helping others develop their careers.

What's on Offer?

This is an opportunity to join a well-established consultancy offering a varied workload, genuine responsibility and the chance to make a meaningful contribution to its continued development.

The package includes:

  • Indicative salary of £65,000 - £80,000 DOE.

  • Hybrid working and flexible working arrangements.

  • A comprehensive benefits package.

  • Opportunities to lead significant environmental and infrastructure projects.

  • Clear routes for further career progression.

  • Ongoing professional development and leadership training.

  • A collaborative, multidisciplinary working environment.

  • The opportunity to influence team growth, client relationships and future business opportunities.
