Sector Experience
We’re all unique, but Simon, in the nicest way possible, is a bit more unique than many… For a start, he’s been a recruiter since 1998. That’s when AutoCAD was still DOS based if you remember either of those?! He is happier talking with people about their values and feelings than salary expectations and notice periods. He does that too, but we all know what he’s really interested in. CIBSE Regional Chairs always have a technical background, engineering qualifications and are typically Chartered. They are never Recruitment Consultants. That was until Simon was elected Chair of CIBSE Yorkshire, breaking the mould and raising eyebrows. He’s also a regular judge on construction industry awards and is rumoured to have more CPD hours than many Engineers. The most consistent feedback Simon receives is about the time and care he takes to ensure the matches he makes are more than skills-based; it means he often uncovers opportunities not even the employer realised existed!
High Calibre Fact
He’s a regular volunteer at his local parkrun, theatre and a strong advocate for people securing their first roles, return to work or launch their second careers. Simon has also run four marathons, two of which were planned. He describes the others as “having a bit of a Gump moment”. We struggle with the concept of one 26 mile “Gump moment”, but two? We did say he’s more unique than many…
