Calibre Search places engineers, managers, designers and built environment professionals across Manchester and the North West. We work with FM contractors, engineering consultancies, developers and public sector clients operating across Greater Manchester and the wider region.

Recruiting in Manchester's Built Environment and FM Industries

Manchester is the most active built environment market in the North of England. Sustained population growth, a strong consultancy base and a decade of major investment in residential, commercial and infrastructure development mean demand for technical talent is consistently high across the region.

We recruit across the following disciplines in Manchester and the wider North West:

Civil and structural engineering. Design and delivery roles from graduate through to director level, across consultancies, contractors and major infrastructure programmes.

Building services and MEP. Mechanical, electrical and public health design roles across consultancies working on commercial, residential, healthcare and education projects throughout Greater Manchester.

Facilities management. Hard services and engineering management roles across FM contractors and in-house client teams. Refrigeration engineers, gas engineers, electricians, chiller engineers and multi-skilled operatives working across the region's commercial, retail and public sector estate.

Planning and architecture. Architects, architectural technologists and town planners at all levels, from independent private practice through to Greater Manchester's largest planning authorities.

Surveying. Quantity surveyors, building surveyors and project managers across consultancy and contracting, covering commercial development, public sector frameworks and infrastructure delivery.

Environmental and geo-environmental. Graduate through to principal level across water, geotechnical and environmental consultancies active across the North West.

Why Manchester is One of the UK's Strongest Engineering Markets

Several major programmes are active simultaneously across Greater Manchester right now. The Crown Street Phase 3 development, valued at £570 million and delivering 1,746 apartments, is the largest single construction project in Manchester in 2026. Viadux Two, a 76-storey tower set to become the tallest building in the UK outside London, is also underway, delivering 452 apartments and a Nobu Hotel on an 80,000 sq ft brownfield site in the city centre.

Greater Manchester mayor Andy Burnham has committed £1 billion to a regeneration push spanning all 10 boroughs, targeting nearly 3,000 new homes, 22,000 jobs and 2 million sq ft of employment space. The £3 billion Haweswater Aqueduct upgrade, a 110km pipeline serving the North West, is due to begin construction in 2026 and will take around 8 to 9 years to complete.

That concentration of long-term investment creates sustained demand for engineers and technical professionals across the region.
