This Leeds based Mechanical Design Engineer position is one which will see you getting away from the design office and out in to the field for c. 30-40% of your time.
In the role you will be working very closely with the client as their representative for looking at their properties with aging kit and asking "is there a better way" than simply replacing the boiler.
The best solution may be like for like, but they are keen to explore options such as heat pumps, solar thermal etc. first.
You will need to be able to identify different heating/cooling systems, consider the situation and use before making recommendations .
It is essential that you are familiar with domestic water, sprinkler (minor knowledge only), ventilation and heating systems within a non-domestic environment and are comfortable travelling throughout the country with the occasional night away.
While you won't be relying on using a car, it is crucial that you are able to drive. You will be encouraged to use trains and air where appropriate (there are some sites in Ireland), so you won't be spending hours on the road..
Essentially, you will need to be able to survey and scope out a scheme, pass it to contractors (who will be doing the design) and commenting upon their work.
You don't need to be a hardcore Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, just a confident all round Mechanical Design Engineer.
Night work is minimal; there may be the odd requirement to oversee some commissioning, but due to the schemes being mechanical, this can typically be carried out during the day.
If this sounds like the role for you, you will need to be a Mechanical Engineer with a building services design/design management background.
If you are used to working within a surveying practice or design consultancy you will be familiar with a lot of the role while if your experience is from a M&E Contractor, some will be familiar, other aspects less so, but that potentially makes them more of a breath of fresh air!
