Senior Structural Engineer
Leeds
There are plenty of structural engineering roles in Leeds offering "great projects" and "career progression". This one is a bit different.
This opportunity sits within a growing Consultancy that has built a strong reputation through long-standing client relationships and a consistent stream of repeat work across the commercial, retail and property sectors. Rather than being heavily design-led, this role is centred around understanding existing buildings, identifying problems, advising clients and becoming the engineer people rely on when something needs investigating properly.
The team is looking for a Senior Structural Engineer who is either Chartered or close to achieving Chartership and enjoys the practical side of engineering just as much as the technical side. Someone comfortable pulling on boots, heading to site, speaking directly with clients and producing clear, detailed reports that actually influence decisions.
The role naturally suits an Engineer who prefers variety in their week. Around three days will typically be spent out carrying out structural inspections, surveys and investigations across a wide range of buildings and assets, with the rest focused on reporting, technical problem solving and supporting project delivery from the Leeds office. Some inspections within the retail sector are carried out outside standard working hours, so there needs to be a level of flexibility and trust on both sides.
This is not a role where someone disappears into a huge corporate structure or becomes another name in a design team. The successful Engineer will have genuine ownership over projects, direct exposure to clients and the chance to become a recognised technical figure within the office. There is also a growing junior presence in the team, so the ability to support and guide less experienced engineers would be welcomed.
The work itself is broad and interesting. One week could involve investigating movement within an existing structure, the next could be detailed condition surveys, refurbishment advice or assessing buildings ahead of redevelopment works. It is ideal for someone who enjoys understanding how buildings behave in the real world rather than purely sitting within a design environment.
Candidates should have strong experience carrying out structural inspections and surveys, writing detailed technical reports and managing work independently. A Consultancy background is expected alongside solid knowledge of UK structures and building standards.
For an experienced Structural Engineer looking for a role with more freedom, more client involvement and a healthier mix between technical work and being out on site, this is a genuinely strong opportunity within the Leeds market.
