Associate Civils Director - Water
Cambridge
An exceptional opportunity has arisen for an experienced Civil Water Engineer to join one of the world's leading engineering and design Consultancies as an Associate Director within its growing Water team in Cambridge.
This is a senior leadership position within a nationally recognised multidisciplinary practice that is helping to deliver some of the UK's most significant water and infrastructure programmes. Working with major utility providers and public sector clients, you will play a key role in shaping projects that improve resilience, sustainability and long-term performance across critical infrastructure networks.
As a key member of the team, you will help deliver transformational programmes that support some of the country's most important infrastructure assets. The business is involved throughout the full project lifecycle, from strategic planning and concept development through to detailed design, construction support and programme delivery, providing genuine opportunities to influence projects from inception to completion. Alongside nationally significant schemes, there may also be opportunities to contribute to major international projects through the wider global business.
Joining a highly respected technical practice, you will lead multidisciplinary teams delivering complex Civil Water engineering projects spanning clean water, wastewater, water reuse, pipelines, hydraulic infrastructure and associated civil engineering works. Working closely with specialists across MEICA, Structural Engineering, Geotechnics and Project Management, you will ensure the successful delivery of integrated engineering solutions that balance technical excellence with commercial and programme objectives.
You will take ownership of project delivery across multiple commissions, leading the development of technical solutions, managing resources and overseeing programmes and budgets. Responsibilities will include reviewing and approving technical reports, calculations, drawings and design packages while ensuring compliance with relevant standards, client requirements and regulatory frameworks.
Beyond project delivery, the role offers the opportunity to shape and develop the Civil Water capability both regionally and nationally. You will provide technical leadership, champion best practice, contribute to strategic initiatives and support the continued growth of the team through mentoring, recruitment and capability development. There will also be involvement in business development, bid preparation, client relationship management and wider operational leadership activities.
The successful candidate will be a Chartered Civil Engineer with significant experience delivering major water infrastructure projects within a Consultancy environment. You will have a proven track record leading multidisciplinary teams, collaborating with clients and contractors, and successfully managing projects through the full design and delivery lifecycle.
Strong technical expertise across areas such as hydraulics, clean water networks, wastewater infrastructure, pipelines and wider Civil Water engineering is essential. You should possess a thorough understanding of current design standards, CDM regulations, NEC contracts, utility requirements and industry best practice, alongside experience using industry-standard software including AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit, ArcGIS and Common Data Environments.
This role requires an individual who can think strategically, challenge conventional approaches and identify innovative solutions to complex engineering challenges. Equally important are strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to engage effectively with clients, stakeholders and colleagues at all levels whilst developing and inspiring teams around them.
The Consultancy places genuine value on collaboration, recognising that the best outcomes are achieved when diverse perspectives and expertise come together. Employees are encouraged to contribute ideas, influence decision-making and play an active role in the continued evolution of the business. In return, you will benefit from a highly flexible hybrid working arrangement, typically involving three days per week in the office or on site, alongside a market-leading benefits package, structured career progression and the opportunity to work on projects that will have a lasting impact on communities, infrastructure and the environment.
