Most building services consultancies say they value their senior engineers. This one is built around them. It's a deliberately senior-heavy MEP consultancy where nearly every project has a Director on it and a Senior or Principal engineer does the core design work. Clients pay for that level of expertise, which is why around 90% of them come back and most of the work is won through negotiation rather than tender.

The business has grown to three offices across the South East and East of England since it was founded in 2020. Each office runs as its own business, but projects, clients and people move freely between them, so the offices don't compete with each other. The Essex office is looking for a Senior or Principal Mechanical Engineer to join an established team.

The Role

• Leading mechanical design on projects across education, residential, commercial, industrial and a growing healthcare portfolio
• Working mainly at RIBA Stage 4 and beyond, producing detailed technical design and construction-level information through to commissioning, often for mechanical and electrical contractors
• Covering heating, ventilation, air conditioning and comfort cooling, with a strong focus on sustainability
• Working closely with Directors, electrical and public health colleagues and in-house Revit technicians in one coordinated MEP model
• Principal-level candidates will have the chance to build client relationships and contribute to fee proposals. At Senior level this isn't expected

About You

• An experienced Mechanical Design Engineer at Senior or Principal level from a consultancy or design and build background.
• Genuinely confident producing Stage 4 detailed design. This is the one essential requirement, and contractor-side experience isn't necessary.
• Technically strong, with a solid working knowledge of the relevant British Standards, RIBA stages and BSRIA BG6.
• Revit skills are a bonus rather than essential. If you want to learn, you'll get the licence, hardware and encouragement to do so.
• Happy working mainly in the office. Home working is available on request, but this is a collaborative team that works best in person.
