Building Physics/Energy Engineer
London (South Bank)
Salary - Up to £55k
Overview
A well-established, independently run building services and sustainability consultancy is looking to bring a Building Physics Engineer into their London team. The practice operates across two offices and has built a strong reputation across commercial, residential, hotel, later living, and mixed-use sectors - with a notable track record on complex, high-specification projects including BREEAM Outstanding schemes.
The Role
This is a design-led position sitting within the sustainability team. Day-to-day you'll be carrying out operational energy modelling using IES, feeding results into broader carbon studies - including embodied and lifecycle carbon analysis - and producing non-domestic EPCs (Level 5 lodgement capability is essential). This isn't a site-based certification role; the focus is technical, design-stage modelling work that directly influences project outcomes.
Travel requirements are minimal and the team works on a flexible hybrid basis, with a preference for in-office presence at the start of the week.
About You
- Competent IES modeller - essential
- Qualified to lodge non-domestic EPCs (Level 5 accredited)
- Experience across commercial or mixed-use building types preferred
- SAP Calculations or domestic energy assessment skills are a bonus, not a must
- You'll be comfortable working as part of a multidisciplinary team and confident communicating with clients and architects
The level of experience targeted is intermediate to lower-senior, someone who's qualified and capable of working independently, but this isn't necessarily a senior appointment.
The Business
This consultancy has been growing steadily through project wins and long-standing client relationships rather than churn. Their sustainability team was established organically and sits alongside several M&E engineering teams across two offices. Average tenure is notably long, people join and tend to stay, which says a lot about the culture. Current project activity spans EV-related industrial facilities, commercial retrofits (heat pump and low-carbon systems upgrades), and refurbishment of older commercial stock for London-based developers and investors.
