Wastewater Hydraulic Modeller / Senior Modeller
Peterborough
The UK water sector is going through a period of unprecedented investment, and this is a chance to join one of the largest multidisciplinary water teams in the country as its workload continues to grow.
Following further framework successes with leading UK Water Companies, they are looking for a Wastewater Hydraulic Modeller or Senior Modeller to join their Peterborough team. You'll become part of an established modelling operation working on major wastewater programmes, with projects covering storm overflow reduction, flood alleviation, environmental improvements and the development of longer-term wastewater catchment strategies.
This isn't a role where you'll simply be handed models to run. You'll be involved in understanding how catchments are performing, identifying the issues and helping develop the solutions needed to improve them. Using InfoWorks ICM alongside GIS software and ICM Exchange, you'll support the delivery of technically complex modelling projects and help turn model outputs into practical investment decisions for clients.
Projects will include Storm Overflow Discharge Reduction Plans, flood alleviation and environmental solution development, alongside wider wastewater catchment planning. You'll work closely with modelling leads, engineers, project managers and other specialists, taking responsibility for the quality of your own outputs and ensuring work is delivered in line with the required standards and specifications.
For those coming in at Senior level, there's plenty of opportunity to take on more responsibility. This could include coordinating modelling packages, checking and reviewing the work of others, supporting project and programme management, contributing to tenders and fee estimates and helping develop more junior members of the team. The business is also keen for people to contribute ideas and technical innovation rather than simply following established ways of working.
They're looking for someone with experience in wastewater hydraulic modelling, ideally gained within the UK regulated water sector. You'll need a good working knowledge of InfoWorks ICM, with experience of GIS software and ideally ICM Exchange. Experience across catchment planning, model development, solution development, storm overflow work or flood alleviation would all translate particularly well.
Just as importantly, you'll need to be comfortable communicating technical information, solving problems and working as part of a wider multidisciplinary team. At Senior level, they'll be looking for evidence that you can deliver technically strong work independently and provide quality assurance through checking or reviewing the work of others.
The scale of the wider water business is a big attraction here. Alongside wastewater modelling, the team delivers water and wastewater infrastructure, drainage design, SuDS and surface water management work for water companies, Local Authorities, highways and rail organisations and developers. That gives you access to a huge range of technical expertise without having to narrow your career too early.
There's also a genuine emphasis on progression. Whether you want to become a technical specialist, move towards project leadership or eventually progress into wider management, you'll have access to structured training, experienced technical mentors and a clear route forward.
The role offers hybrid and flexible working, flexible holiday allowances and a comprehensive benefits package, alongside the security of a substantial long-term workload within one of the busiest areas of UK infrastructure.
