If you're a Civil Engineer who enjoys drainage design but wants to do more than simply produce the same standard schemes time and again, this could be a really interesting move.

I'm working with a specialist environmental engineering consultancy with a particularly strong reputation in sustainable water management and SuDS. They're continuing to grow their Civil Engineering capability and are looking for an Engineer to join the team.

SuDS isn't simply an add-on service here. Sustainable drainage and water management form a significant part of the work, with an emphasis on finding intelligent, practical solutions rather than approaching every project in exactly the same way.

There's also the opportunity to follow projects beyond the initial calculations and reports, getting involved through detailed design and ultimately seeing schemes delivered on site.

The role

You'll work across a varied portfolio of residential, commercial, infrastructure and specialist development projects, delivering sustainable drainage and wider Civil Engineering solutions.

Your work will include:

• Design and development of SuDS and surface water drainage schemes
• Flood Risk Assessments and drainage strategies
• Detailed drainage design and hydraulic calculations
• Producing technical drawings, specifications and design documentation
• Working with packages such as InfoDrainage, MicroDrainage, Civil 3D, Site3D and/or FLOW
• Supporting projects through planning, technical approval and construction
• Liaising with clients, Local Authorities, regulators, contractors and multidisciplinary design teams
• Occasional site visits to support investigations and construction
• Producing technical reports and presenting recommendations to clients and stakeholders
• Managing your own workload across multiple projects

Depending on your experience, there will also be opportunities to mentor junior Engineers and take increasing responsibility for project delivery and client relationships.

What are they looking for?

You'll ideally have a degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering or a related discipline, alongside 2+ years' experience within drainage, SuDS, flood risk or infrastructure design.

You don't need to tick every box, but experience across some of the following would be useful:

• SuDS design
• Flood Risk Assessments
• Drainage strategies
• InfoDrainage / MicroDrainage / FLOW
• Civil 3D or Site3D
• UK drainage and SuDS standards
• S38, S104, S185 and S278 agreements
• Highway design
• TUFLOW, ICM or other 1D/2D hydraulic modelling packages
• Geotechnical or wider infrastructure design

You may already be working towards professional qualification with ICE, CIWEM or another relevant institution, although the biggest thing they're looking for is someone who genuinely enjoys the technical side of drainage and wants to develop further within SuDS and sustainable water management.
