Quantity Surveyor - Water & Civil Engineering
Sizewell, Suffolk
I'm currently working with a well-established civil engineering and utilities contractor who are looking to add an experienced Quantity Surveyor to their team at Sizewell Power Station.
The role will be working across clean and dirty water infrastructure as part of a major and highly complex power station project.
This is a good opportunity for a Quantity Surveyor with a background in civil engineering, utilities or water who is looking to take ownership of significant work packages within a major infrastructure environment.
There is also genuine progression available, with the opportunity to develop into a Senior Quantity Surveyor or Commercial Management position as the project and wider business continue to grow.
The Role
As a Quantity Surveyor, you'll be responsible for the day-to-day commercial management of your packages, working closely with the Project Manager, Commercial Manager, Construction Manager, site teams, client and supply chain.
You'll be involved from procurement and subcontract award through to final account, with responsibility for keeping costs, change and commercial risk under control.
Responsibilities include:
- Managing the commercial aspects of clean and dirty water packages
- Supporting procurement and subcontract appointments
- Managing budgets, forecasts and monthly CVRs
- Preparing applications and valuations
- Managing variations, compensation events and early warnings
- Identifying and managing commercial risks and opportunities
- Subcontract procurement and account management
- Cost and value reporting
- Working closely with the project and construction teams
- Managing the commercial impact of programme changes and delays
- Liaising with the client and supply chain
- Commercial reporting to senior management
- Supporting dispute avoidance and resolution
- Ensuring contractual obligations are understood and managed
- Final accounts and commercial close-out
About You
Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor with a background in:
- Civil engineering
- Utilities
- Water
- Infrastructure
- Major projects
You'll ideally have experience with NEC, together with a strong understanding of cost control, forecasting, CVRs, variations, compensation events and subcontract management.
You'll need to be commercially aware, confident dealing with clients and subcontractors, and comfortable working closely with site and project teams.
A relevant commercial or surveying qualification is preferred.
The Opportunity
This is more than just another QS position. You'll have the opportunity to take ownership of substantial packages on a major project, develop your commercial experience and work alongside an experienced commercial team.
For the right person, there is a clear route to Senior QS and/or Commercial Management, with the business looking to develop people who can take on greater responsibility as the project progresses.
