The Opportunity

An established and highly regarded structural engineering consultancy is looking to appoint a Principal Structural Engineer to join its growing team in Greater Manchester.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced structural engineer looking to take the next step in their career, with responsibility for delivering technically challenging projects, supporting junior engineers and playing an important role in the continued development of the structural engineering team.

The successful candidate will ideally be Chartered (CEng) or approaching Chartered status, with strong technical knowledge and experience across building structures.

The Role

As Principal Structural Engineer, you will be responsible for:

  • Leading the structural design and delivery of projects from concept through to completion.
  • Providing technical leadership and guidance to engineers and technicians.
  • Producing and reviewing structural calculations, specifications, reports and technical documentation.
  • Working across a range of building projects and structural materials.
  • Liaising with clients, architects, contractors and other design professionals.
  • Coordinating structural engineering input with wider project teams.
  • Reviewing designs and ensuring compliance with relevant British Standards, Eurocodes and Building Regulations.
  • Supporting project planning, fee proposals and technical bids where required.
  • Mentoring and developing less experienced members of the team.
  • Contributing to the continued growth and technical development of the structural engineering function.

About You

We are looking for an experienced structural engineer with:

  • A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Chartered Engineer status (CEng) or demonstrably close to achieving Chartered status.
  • Significant experience within a structural engineering consultancy.
  • Strong experience in the design of building structures.
  • Good knowledge of structural analysis and design principles.
  • Experience with reinforced concrete, steelwork and other common structural materials.
  • Excellent technical report writing and communication skills.
  • The ability to lead projects and provide technical direction to others.
  • A commercially aware and client-focused approach.
  • Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.

Experience with structural design software such as Tekla, TEDDS, Robot, Revit or similar would be advantageous.
